Grade 8 Fisher Park/Summit Alternative Science and Engineering Olympics

The Grade 8's have been working hard all term to design and build their Olympic projects. All events require competitors to perform pre-testing at school and to bring their best designs to the Olympics. Come and see their end results as they show off their final products.
 
This year's Olympics will only have Grade 8 students participating, but all families within the Fisher Park/Summit community are welcome to attend the event. 
 
The Olympics will consist of 4 events for the grade 8's:
Fun Machine (Rube Goldberg); Trebuchet; Elastic Band Car; Bionic Arm (hydraulics)

Location: Large and Small gyms at Fisher Park/Summit school 
 

 The Ski Club will be on Thursday, February 9th, 16th, 23rd and March 1st from 3:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please click on the link below in order to download the information sheet.

The second payment for the Grade 8 trip to Quebec City is upcoming. Please ensure that EF Educational Tours has your second payment of $200 by Friday, February 3rd. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact EF Educational Tours's Customer Service department at 1-877-387-9887.

All of Summit will be going to the GCTC's presentation of "Blood on the Moon" on February 1st. If you have not yet seen a permission form, please print off a copy under the "Field trip" link on the left sidebar.

  • The January newsletter has been emailed home and is also available here There are a lot of individual program requests and information (Drama, D & T, Milk Program, fundraising initiatives etc...) so please take the time to read it.
  • Please see the information sidebar on the right in order to see the most recent High School information.
  • Report Cards will be coming home on Wednesday, February 8th
  • Summit will be hosting Student Led Conferences on Thursday, February 16th from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. We will be sending more information about the SLC's as they draw near
  • Churchill Alternative is having a fundraising evening with Dr. Gordon Neufield, the author of "Hold On To Your Kids" on Thursday, February 16th at 7:30 p.m. Click here for further information.
  • The Annual Summit Winter Carnival will take place on Friday, February 24th. This is a full day activity that begins with a Pancake Breakfast hosted by Summit parents. Please note this date and look for further information as we will need a number of volunteers and donations in order to ensure it's success.
  • Subway order forms will be coming out this week. This lunch fundraiser is available on Mondays from February 6th - March 26th.
  • Summit students will be snowshoeing in the Gatineau's in mid-February, these forms will be coming home and posted online in the near future.
  • The second payment for the Grade 8 trip to Quebec City is due on February 3rd.

Summit Alternative School Council

School Council has a number of upcoming events. Please see below if there are any areas in which you can contribute (this could be as simple as referring us to a friend who has a maple syrup company!)
  • Comic book Fair in March - proceeds to the school library
  • Maple Syrup fundraiser - looking for community contacts that may be able to provide syrup; volunteer(s) to research & organize
  • April "Green" fundraiser - looking for ideas and support; please see the newsletter for further details

Welcome to Summit Alternative School
At Summit, we offer a regular English, Core French Alternative program. Summit Alternative School was founded in 1995, to serve students who were interested in an experiential, child-centered, learning environment. Summit Alternative School is located at the very "Summit"(3rd Floor) of Fisher Park School. Summit students share all the facilities, administration and full range of extra-curricular activities available at Fisher Park. Summit features: high academic expectations, recognition of individual learning styles, dedicated staff who facilitate Summit student learning experiences, "hands on" learning both in the school and while on field trips.
